Last week, Brentwood and Highvale Secondary College students visited Holmesglen Institute to explore all things health careers at Holmesglen Health Showcase.

The Industry Immersion Day saw students participate in activities exploring various skill areas such as allied health, nursing, pathology, simulations and CPR.
With rotations led by Holmesglen Institute educators, students were able to understand a variety of career and study options directly from the people who currently teach and work in these fields.
Students gained hands-on experience in each session. In the morning, students looked at their own cheek cells under microscopes, explored pathology and labelling samples, and developed their understanding of allied health equipment.

Holmesglen led a presentation that provided context to the courses students could undertake to pursue a career in the healthcare industry. They looked specifically at courses that linked to the activities students took part in and heard from students currently studying in such courses at Holmesglen.
In the afternoon, students explored life-saving techniques and first aid by trying out CPR and bandaging skills. The importance of communication and collaboration skills in health care was also explored through students working together to solve an escape room and complete a virtual reality task.

The energy was high, with students developing their understanding of the variety of opportunities for them within health careers. From short courses to bachelor degrees, students left the day knowing just how many options are at Holmesglen in the healthcare sector.
Thank you so much to the team at Holmesglen for their work in delivering such a valuable learning experience for students.
